Curriculum at LS-TEN

Curriculum Overview

LS-TEN provides a holistic education for young people in a caring, supportive and nurturing environment. We recognise that every young person has the capacity to make a success of him or herself regardless of their circumstances and individual starting points. Therefore, we are committed to providing an inclusive and wide-ranging educational provision so that all young people leave here ready for the next phase of their educational journey. We strive to give all students at LS-TEN the highest quality learning experience.

Intent:

Our curriculum is designed to provide a broad and balanced education that meets the needs of all students, preparing them for life in modern society. We aim to inspire and challenge students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and understanding necessary to become successful, confident, and responsible individuals.

Key intentions of our curriculum include:

      1.    Knowledge Acquisition: Ensure students acquire a deep understanding of the key concepts across all subject areas, with a strong focus on literacy and numeracy.

      2.    Skill Development: Develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and communication to enable students to apply their knowledge in a variety of contexts.

      3.    Personal Development: Promote the development of moral, cultural, social, and physical attributes, fostering a sense of respect, responsibility, and resilience in all students.

      4.    Preparation for the Future: Prepare students for further education and employment by providing opportunities to explore different career pathways, including vocational and academic routes.

Implementation:

Our curriculum is delivered through a well-structured and sequenced approach that builds on prior learning and ensures coherence and progression across all stages. The implementation of our curriculum includes:

      1.    Curriculum Design: Each subject curriculum is carefully designed to reflect our intent, ensuring that content is relevant, engaging, and appropriately challenging. Schemes of work are mapped out to provide a logical progression of knowledge and skills.

      2.    Teaching and Learning Strategies: We employ a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and needs, including direct instruction, inquiry-based learning, collaborative projects, and hands-on experiences. Teachers use formative assessment strategies to adapt their teaching to meet the needs of all learners.

      3.    Enrichment Opportunities: A range of extra-curricular activities, including clubs, trips, and workshops, are provided to enhance the curriculum and provide students with broader learning experiences.

      4.    Support and Intervention: We identify students who require additional support early on and provide targeted interventions to help them succeed. Differentiation is embedded within lessons to ensure that all students, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), can access the curriculum.
