Curriculum at LS-TEN
Our curriculum intends to develop key skills in literacy, numeracy, speaking and listening, problem solving, improving our own learning and teamwork. Our intent is to:
Provide a balanced education for all learners which allows learners to achieve academically and socially.
Enable learners to develop knowledge, understand concepts and acquire skills, and be able to choose and apply these in relevant situations.
Support learners’ mental health and wellbeing, spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
Support learners’ physical development and responsibility for their own health, and enable them to be active.
Promote a positive attitude towards learning.
Ensure equal access to learning, with high expectations for every learner and appropriate levels of challenge and support.
At key stage 3 and 4 the school delivers a key skills curriculum. Individual subjects provide the basis for the development of work-related skills. Literacy and numeracy are developed in specific English and Maths lessons and form the basis of learners’ education. Statutory subjects such as Science and ICT develop specific knowledge and skills related to these areas. Engagement is a key focus for our curriculum offer.
Some learners may have the opportunity to sit GCSE qualifications as and when this is appropriate. Qualifications are gained through the AQA unit award scheme.
